“Once this journey takes hold, I find I’m able to think as my character thinks, act as he acts, and feel what my character is feeling...”

James Patterson leads you into the darkest recesses of the mind with this chilling, immersive audio thriller. We meet Brent Quill, a frustrated actor trying to take his game to the next level. When he learns about the intensive Method acting process, he dives in deep—and immediately lands the lead role in a TV series about a brutal serial killer.

But when the Method’s controversial techniques start to take over Brent’s psyche, the lines between real life and acting begin to blur dangerously. How far will Brent go to “become” the character?

Starring Zachary Quinto (Star Trek, Heroes), Stephanie Beatriz (Encanto, Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Lil Rel Howery (Get Out), and a full cast, The Method is pure James Patterson—a roller-coaster ride of lies, coverups, and dark deeds.

Fantastic performance of a quick thriller

The performance in this book is fantastic - I can almost see it in my mind like a movie, not just an audiobook. Story-wise, this is a self-improvement-journey-goes-wrong story about a struggling Hollywood actor. It's exactly what you expect it to be - fun, quick, and thrilling. I enjoyed it throughout.

I picked up this book purely to listen to Zachary Quinto speaking, the same as watching a TV show because the lead actor/actress is hot. The story turns out quite engaging.

Here are the audiobook narrators whom I would listen to simply to hear them read anything: Zachary Quinto (e.g., "The Dispatcher" and "Sorry Charlie Miller"), Neil Gaiman (e.g. "The Sandman", "The View from the Cheap Seats", etc.), and Richard Dawkins ("The Selfish Gene" and "The Blind Watchmaker", etc.). There is the bonus that all their books are fantastic.

If you enjoy the "self-improvement goes wrong" type of thriller, check out "Self Center" by Matthew Chauncey (2021) and "Self Help" by Ben H. Winters (2022), both free with Audible Plus. They are not masterpieces but can be a nice treat for the Halloween season.

just from the preview alone I hate it.

I hate the stereotypical sassy black person trope. As if bordering stupid and sassy is a personality trait that all black people share with no exceptions shows one of three things if not all three together. If there was someone directing this then 1) they told him to act like that. 2) the writer wrote this character like that, which if so should be reason for introspection. 3) the voice actor chose to do it like this because they thought it, the stereotype, would make the listeners comfortable with the character. In either case no amount of start power in this production will be enough to make me ignore it and think that's ok.

The Dangers of Method Acting

I hope more of James Patterson's work comes in this format in future. Quite the cast, though many I don't recognize, not by voice or name. Still, fine work by all involved.

Great Format

Perfect format and story length. The variety of excellent voices make the story plot work really well.

Tosh

Absolute rubbish. Why James Patterson would even consider putting his name to such Tosh I cannot even believe. Don’t waste your time. Move on to something better.

excellent

Great quick story, very engaging and easy to follow. The voice acting especially from the main characters was outstanding. I could listen to Zachary Quinto all day.

Why would someone want to listen to this?

Voice actors are fantastic but the subject matter is disturbing. It is not recommended unless you need this level of realism.

Just over “meh” only because it’s free.

Actors were great, but the story was very difficult to finish.
Boring and too predictable. Only a slightly better waste of time than scrolling social media.
